Craft beer in a can?? Why you may ask? The simple answer is because we want to. However, it goes much deeper. Check out the following compelling arguments:
CANS ARE BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
- *  Cans are the #1 recycled beverage container of any kind in the
- United States
- * Cans contain an average of 68% recycled aluminum
- * Recycled aluminum cans saves 95% of the energy used to
- make aluminum cans from virgin materials
- * Lightweight cans provide savings in shipping and handling costs
- through the entire supply chain
- * Used aluminum cans can be recycled and returned to a store
- shelf as a new can in as few as 60 days
CANS ARE THE PERFECT PACKAGE FOR BEER
- * Light does not penetrate the aluminum can
- * Cans chill faster than any other beverage container resulting in
- fresher, better tasting beer
- * Cans are airtight and oxygen-free. Oxygen can leach into a bottled
- beer under the bottle cap and affect the taste
- * Spraying the insides of the can and lid with a water-based polymer
- ensures no contact between the beer and the aluminum can
- * Cans go where bottles do not. Cans go everywhere
- * Cans don't shatter
- * Cans are much lighter than glass
So there you have it. And yes I did use the words virgin and penetrate in my little dissertation.
Mark my words....The future of craft beer will be packaged in cans....
